Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
At WCCS, the school day begins at 7:25 am. Dismissal for students taking the bus begins at 1:55 pm. Dismissal for students traveling home via car or foot begins at 2:00 pm.
For detailed arrival and dismissal procedures, please refer to the Student & Family Handbook.
Parents, guardians and other caregivers can help drop-off and pick up run as smoothly as possible by following the protocols below:
If your child travels to/from school by car or on foot…
Drop Off
Doors open to students who arrive via foot and car at 7:00 am. Arriving with your child by 7:15 am will allow them time to walk to their classroom, put away their belongings, and be ready for the start of the school day at 7:25 am.
Pickup
Dismissal begins at 1:55 p.m., and all students should be picked up by 2:10 p.m. No students will be released between 1:30 – 1:55 p.m. Any student being picked up after 2:10 pm will need to be signed out. In order to have our students exit the building in a safe and timely manner, please follow the dismissal process below:
- Walkers will be dismissed at 2:00 and will leave from the Westminster side of the school.
- Walk Up pick-ups will be permitted between 2:00 and 2:10 p.m.
- Each family will be provided with a hanging tag with the family car number. This should be hung from the rear-view mirror of the vehicle. Multiple hanging tags will be provided upon request.
- Parent/guardians without a family car number will be required to show identification and have the student’s School Pass form checked. Any person not on the list will be unable to pick up a student(s) without parent or guardian permission.
- Students will not be dismissed unless their number is entered. Text messages or cell phone calls from a parent/guardian to a student cannot be used to release a student from school.
- Students who are walking or being picked up by car must be picked up on the Westminster Avenue side of the building. Cars should enter the carline at the back of line. For the safety of all students, do not cut into the line as cars pull away.
- Students taking the school bus will be dismissed on the East Amherst side of the building and main parking lot. Cars will not be allowed to park or wait for students during dismissal in these areas.
- At risk of being ticketed by the Buffalo Police Department, no business driveways should ever be blocked.
- For a parent/guardian that has a special need (i.e., early release needed for an appointment), they should send in a written note to school on that day. We ask that the note first go to the classroom teacher and the teacher will forward the note to the main office.
- To make our pick up and drop off via car as smooth as possible, cars should adhere to the directions provided by staff.
If your child travels to/from school by bus…
- Bus transportation to and from school is provided by the student’s district of residence.
- BPS will coordinate bus transportation for all qualifying students who live in the Buffalo School District. If you have a change of address, please contact the WCCS main office @ 716-816-3450. Please note, any changes to your child’s bus transportation can take as long as 2 weeks.
- Families that live outside of the District of Buffalo are responsible for setting up their own bus transportation and for determining how their home district’s calendar will impact the availability of transportation.
- On the bus, students are required to wear a seatbelt, remain in their seats, and adhere to the driver’s instructions.
