Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. ~ Henry Ford                                                                                                                                                                                           One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.  ~  Carl Jung                                                                                                                                           "I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use our natural resources, but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or rob by wasteful use, the generations that come after us." ~ Theodore Roosevelt
WCCS Principal's Message

Principal's Message:

Year two of our Charter School endeavor saw critical changes that were the result of reviews and assessments of our first year.  Staff changes and new demands on the entire staff regarding state exams required us to re-examine our organization, roles and responsibilities of our ancillary staff, and our school wide monitoring system.  Our long-term goals remained the same of every student being successful.  However, through strategic planning that involved the entire staff, we determined what our short-term goals should be.

Our strategic plan resulted in such changes as weekly meetings with our teacher aide staff, and restructuring our after-school program to concentrate on strengthening students’ needed skills for success on State exams.  Saturday classes were restructured to be more interesting, yet intense.  Our parents became more involved in making sure homework was done, and that our after-school and Saturday classes were well attended.

All of our efforts resulted in successful student achievement!  We were, once again, recognized as one of the top ten schools in the Erie County, based on a survey by ‘Business First.’  We continue to have the state designation of ‘A School in Good Standing.’  Specifically, for the first time, our advanced 8th grade math students took the Math A exam (a fete unto itself!).  100% of the eleven students passed the exam, and will enter high school with a math credit.  In addition, 100% of the twenty-two 8th grade students were successful on the Spanish Proficiency exam and will enter high school with a Spanish credit!

There are many success stories that could be related about our staff and students.  We are proud. But, we are not content.  We will continue to strategize, share, learn, and assess until we achieve our long-term goals!   Click Here To Read Dr. Ragan's Biography.
